Dominican Republic gaining on popularity

Back to news

The Caribbean island country Dominican Republic is gaining on popularity. More routes have been added recently not only from the US.

New carriers to serve the Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic is a favourite getaway destination during summer and winter months. Many routes are available from the US, mostly served by American Airlines. More are coming from Canada and Europe. For example, a flight from Moscow is starting on October 31, operated by Transaero. New connections will be available from Ottawa, Canada. And for the upcoming summer holiday season, Thomsonfly is preparing flights from East Midlands in the United Kingdom.

Why is Dominican Republic so popular?

Located on the Caribbean island Hispaniola, larger neighbor of Haiti with roughly 10 million inhabitants. After Cuba, the second largest Caribbean nation. Very popular thanks to all year round warm climate and good tourist services. Four main airports serve the island, Punta Cana (PUJ) is the busiest with almost 4 million passengers in 2008.

What to see and do?

While beaches are most likely the first thing that comes into your mind when thinking about Dominican Republic, there's a lot more to see and do. The nature and wildlife here are unique. And the rich history as well, as seen mainly in the capital. So let's get started with a map of Santo Domingo attractions.
