Ryanair – what happens if your baggage is too large?

Back to news

Passengers of Ryanair have only one piece cabin baggage included in their ticket price. Its dimensions must not exceed 55×40×20 cm. However, sometimes you have to unexpectedly travel with larger baggage. What to do in such cases?

You can still purchase checked baggage at the airport. The first 15 kg baggage costs €60 / £60 in low season and €100 / £100 in high season. If your suitcase is heavier than 15 kg and lighter than 20 kg, you will pay €75 / £75 in low season and €105 / £105 in high season. These charges are per bag per flight.

Ryanair allows each passenger to check-in up to two bags.Second baggage cannot be purchased during the initial booking. The maximum weight of the second bag is 15 kg and you will pay €105 / £105 for it in low season and €135 / £135 in high season.

Try not to exceed your baggage allowance. Otherwise you will be charged €20 / £20 per kilogram at the airport ticket desk.

If it is possible plan your journey ahead, do it. You can save a lot of money by booking your baggage in advance. Details can be found at ryanair.com.
